There is something nobody tells you when you decide to move house: the boxes are only half the battle. You can have the biggest moving truck in Dubai, the most organized spreadsheet of room contents, and still end up with a cracked dinner plate or a scratched wardrobe door, all because the packing materials were not up to the job.

At Insta Move Cargo Pack, we have seen it happen more times than we can count, and it is always avoidable. So let us talk about what actually works.

Start with the Right Boxes, Not Just Any Boxes

Most people grab whatever cardboard they can find. Supermarket boxes, old delivery cartons, whatever is lying around the office. The problem is those boxes were designed to make one trip, not to be stacked five high in the back of a moving truck on the Dubai, Abu Dhabi highway. They compress. They buckle. The bases give way.

For a house move, you need proper double-walled moving boxes, small ones for anything heavy like books, kitchen equipment, or tools, and medium boxes for the bulk of your household items. Large boxes are fine but only for light things: cushions, duvets, lampshades. Filling a large box with crockery is how you end up carrying something that weighs 30kg and then dropping it.

Get more boxes than you think you need. Every single client we have worked with has underestimated this.

Bubble Wrap is not Optional for Fragile Items

There is a reason professional packers carry rolls of the stuff. Bubble wrap does something no other material quite replicates, it cushions against impact from every direction, not just from above. Wrap each fragile item individually. Glasses, plates, bowls, picture frames, ceramic ornaments, anything with a screen, all of it needs its own layer before it goes anywhere near a box.

For a typical three-bedroom house move in Dubai, you are probably looking at three to five large rolls of bubble wrap at minimum. Buy more than you think. Whatever is left over keeps.

Packing Paper Over Newspaper

Black smudges on white crockery, transfer on silverware, grey streaks on anything with a matte finish. Clean, unprinted packing paper costs very little and saves you a lot of scrubbing at the other end.

Foam sheets are worth having too, particularly for anything with a polished or lacquered surface, electronics, kitchen appliances, mirrors. They are thicker than paper and provide a layer of scratch protection that paper alone cannot match.

Heavy-Duty Tape, Not Regular Tape

Standard office tape does not hold under the weight and movement of a fully loaded moving box. You need wide, brown packing tape that is specifically rated for moving and shipping. Apply it in an H-pattern across the base of every single box, one strip down the middle seam and one across each end. Do the same on top. Then give the box a firm press and make sure nothing flexes.

A tape gun makes this significantly faster and neater. If you are doing an entire house, it is worth the small investment.

Stretch Wrap and Furniture Blankets For the Big Pieces

People focus on boxes and forget that furniture needs protection too. A sofa that travels unwrapped picks up scuffs and snags. A wooden dining table gets corner dents. Wardrobes scratch along the edges. It happens in even a short move across the city. For hard surfaces, our team at Insta Move Cargo Pack uses thick furniture blankets.

Wardrobe Boxes, Genuinely Worth It

If you have a lot of hanging clothes, suits, dresses, abayas, formal wear, anything that creases badly, a wardrobe box is one of the smartest things you can buy for a move. It is a tall reinforced carton with a metal hanging bar across the top. You transfer clothes directly from your wardrobe onto the bar, close the box, and they arrive at your new home ready to hang back up. No folding, no creasing, no ironing session at the other end.

Our clients in Dubai who have large collections of formal wear always thank us for suggesting these.

Labels, Simple and Completely Underrated

Write the contents on every box. Write the destination room. If you want to go further, use a different color of tape or sticker for each room, your movers can place boxes in exactly the right location without asking, which saves everyone time.

Label the top and at least one side of every box. Boxes get stacked. You will not always be able to read the top.

One Thing Our Team Always Recommends

Pack a separate essentials bag, not a box, that travels with you personally, not in the truck. Phone chargers, a change of clothes, your documents, any medication, a few snacks, and whatever you will need on your first night before anything is unpacked. This bag has saved a lot of our clients from very stressful first evenings in a new home.

At Insta Move Cargo Pack, we handle house, office, and cargo moves across Dubai and the UAE with full packing services, professional-grade materials, and a team that genuinely cares about delivering your belongings in the same condition they left.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What packing materials do I actually need for a house move?

The core list is: double-walled cardboard boxes in mixed sizes, bubble wrap, clean packing paper or foam sheets, heavy-duty packing tape, stretch wrap for furniture, furniture blankets, and clear labels. If you have a lot of hanging clothes, add wardrobe boxes to that list.

Does Insta Move Cargo Pack supply packing materials?

Yes. Our full-service moving packages include all packing materials and professional packing by our trained team. We bring everything to your door, you do not need to source or buy anything separately.

How much bubble wrap is enough for a house move?

A rough guide is three to five large rolls for a typical house move, depending on how much glassware, crockery, and fragile décor you have. It is always better to have too much than not enough.

Can I use newspaper instead of packing paper?

You can, but it is not a great idea for anything light-colored or polished. Newspaper ink transfers easily and can leave marks that are genuinely difficult to clean off. Unprinted packing paper is inexpensive and much safer.

How do I pack hanging clothes for a move?

For hanging items you want to keep crease-free, wardrobe boxes are the best solution, they have a built-in rail so clothes hang throughout the journey. For everyday folded clothing, suitcases and large boxes both work well.

Does Insta Move Cargo Pack cover all of the UAE?

Yes. We operate across Dubai and throughout the UAE, including Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, and surrounding areas. Competitive rates and guaranteed satisfaction on every move.
